Ok, so I know I need to get back into the routine of posting on a regular basis but that hasn’t happened quite yet. I do have a few halfway decent post ideas that I will try and get written up over the next couple of days, but for now I just wanted to get something up because I always find it easier to write my next post if there hasn’t been a gap since the last one.
What I mean by this is that no matter what the content or quality of my next post, it will be easier for me to write and post it than it to write and post this one. I’m not sure why this is, but it is something that I have come to recognize as an issue that I face anytime that I am forced to step away from this site for a few days (or in many cases longer) and try to resume posting again.
How about you? Do you find that it’s generally more difficult to write the first post back after a break than any of the others that you write? What posts (or types/category of posts) do you generally find to be the most difficult to write? Leave some feedback and perhaps we can look into this more in depth at a later time.

For me it is a lot easier to write a post after I haven’t written anything for a while.
This is because my mind tends to be more open!
When I try to write 1 post every day then usually I will get bored writing and stop doing it for some reason
) (Although I shouldnt)
The way to get things running smoothly is to write a number of posts before you publish them - that way you can have gaps of a week but still automatically publish 1 article per day.
That’s something I strive for, but haven’t gotten around yet!
I like to write articles in batches and think it is the way to go too. It is really nice to be able to update your blog in only a few minutes. However, the flip side to that is I tend to spend a day or two just writing so I have content.
Of course, I have been really lazy lately and took an extended break, so I might not be the best role model
That’s actually a pretty good idea except that I usually hardly have time to write 1 article/post at a time much less a group of them.
As you can tell, I’ve also been on a bit of an extended break as of late partially due to time and partially due to not knowing what I want to post about.
It has another drawback for me, which is that I like to write about news events, partly because it is easy, but I also enjoy it.
As a result, if I have 5 articles waiting to go, I might have an topic that few people have wrote about yet. However, in a week by the time I post the article, it is no longer Hot News…
You’re right Tiger.
It’s interesting how the definition of blog has changed.
It was originally about publishing timely content, now people are using blogs as a publishing platform, rather than a timely news platform.
Neither is right or wrong, but it’s an interesting comparison all the same.
I find the non-technical posts more difficult to write than technical posts.
I find it hard to write a post after being away for a while. I don’t really no what to write after a break
Here is an idea - I keep a special text file where I write down all my ideas for posts.
It can be just an idea or an article that gave me an idea - if I don’t know what to write I just check my list.
It has grown mighty long over time!
I have a file with a long list of ideas for posts too. However, having ideas for a post doesn’t make it any easier to write a post….it just makes it easier to find a topic to write about
I was going to express similar sentiments. That and a lot of times the idea seems a lot better when added to the text file than it does 2+ weeks later when I look at writing…or sometimes I just don’t feel like writing that particular post.
It’s up and down. Some days you have it some you don’t. I find breaks help to refresh you.
I just find it hard to come up with post ideas in general. But i could see how coming up with an idea after not posting for awhile would be difficult.
When writing the first post after the big break I always have so many things to say! I find it more difficult mostly because there’s too much to say and I need to limit myself. But the difficulty here is just the ammount of work going towards writing a coherent post.
I find it hard to come up with good posts consistently because of the nature of my blog, Education and Technology. I’m working right now on making sure that I post at least every 3 days so that I don’t get stuck and say forget it.
I’ve started to expand the blog into social media in schools and newer technology that the students of today use.
The other thing that I’ve found is that a lot of traffic is driven by topical issues, like the FCAT test that we give here in Florida in March. But the newer posts on the issue get skipped for the older posts that have gotten a page ranking on Google from age of post. I end up doing an update at the top of those posts with links to the new posts to drive traffic to those new posts.
Accumulating ideas each day and recording them either online or on a piece of paper leaves me hardly ever having trouble writing a post. The hard part is making the time.
Writing and being a good writer can be imaginative.I just find it hard to come up with post ideas in general especially when I’m writing about something outside my speciality.. Also consistency and regularity helps as the more you write and read other blogs, the more creative and easier it is to write.
@Damien - Making out time is also key..cos you have to reply to comments and feedbacks.
“I just find it hard to come up with post ideas in general “
There’s a simple solution to that - don’t post unless you have something interesting to say!
I think tips and tutorials are the easiest. Reviews maybe?
I agree that tips and tutorials usually come out pretty easily. I think reviews are usually not too bad either, they are just quite time consuming due to the research portion of the process.
Its hard to decide to whats good and bad except to lay out your own opinions.
How about trying a Top 25 … at least it guarantees a reasonable post length. Here’s one … The top 25 Alternative Blogs
Yeah top lists are always good. Especially if you can make them controversial.
I feel like when I’m not writing for a longer periods of time I fall out of the loop. And even though I have more to talk about than say, when I write posts every day, it’s still harder to express myself.
The technical post are the easiest because you can obtain all the data and the accuracy of the information is almost 100%. But that is my opinion.
