GIMP is another open source program that can be used on Windows. For those that don’t know, GIMP stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program and is a program very similar to Adobe Photoshop.
While I have not had much (if any, I don’t recall for sure) experience with Photoshop, my experience with GIMP tells me that it has more features than I will probably ever use. I can create images, edit and crop my pictures, and even do animations with it and it has filled my needs for everything I have done to date.
GIMP also has many plug-ins available that allow you to do even more with the program and include some options that may not be available in the base installation of the program (I have never had need for any of these plug-ins) and users are encouraged to create any plug-ins that they may desire.
If you are looking for a program to use to create or edit graphics and photographs but don’t want to shell out the money for Photoshop or a similar program, I would definitely recommend giving GIMP a try. This is also a good choice if you are looking for a program that can be used on any computer (there are Linux, Mac, and Windows installers) that you happen to be using.
