Almost any blog you come across will have a blogroll of some sort. While most sites have their blogroll in a sidebar, there are also some that have moved the blogroll to the footer of the page. There are many different names for these blogrolls such as featured sites, blogroll, links, favorite sites, friends and family, or (the title I use) blogs I read. They also vary greatly in length from four or five different sites to as many as seventy-four (yes I do know a site with that many) or more.

Getting your site or blog added to the blogroll on a given site can be accomplished in a variety of ways depending on the list you want to be added to. In some cases, it can be very difficult to get added to that list, while on others it is much easier. On some sites, all that is required to be added to the blogroll is that you include that site on your blogroll and notify the site owner that you have done so. There are other sites that actually sell these links.

With this wide variety of use of the blogroll, how much value does being on someone else’s blogroll actually have both in terms of links and traffic? That is the question I would like to ask with this post. In my personal opinion, a shorter blogroll seems to be more valuable, but I also think that the difficulty of getting on the list probably also plays a part.

Now, some questions for my readers to answer:

What are your thoughts on blogroll length and how long is your blogroll?

What value do you put on being included in your blogroll is it an exclusive group or open to most anyone?

What blogrolls are you on that you are most proud of?
