With WordPress, there is an option that seems like it might be kinda neat, but I’m not sure how useful it would be. When adding a new post to your blog you can either log in to the dashboard and post it through there or you can set up a “secret” email account that you send the post to and it gets posted.
I’m wondering if anyone actually uses the email method, and if/when/why you do. I see using this method as a potential security hazard because anything that gets sent to that address will be posted on the site. Also, I don’t know how the categorizing of the post would work if you emailed it to your blog.
From my experience, anytime that I have access to email something, I can just as easily log in to the dashboard and do what I need to do. However, I do not type my updates directly into the WordPress dashboard.
I have discovered some benefits of typing in a word processor (OpenOffice Writer or Microsoft Word) and then copy and pasting it in to the word press dashboard. With the dashboard, the number of lines that you can read are more limited and the spelling/grammar checks don’t work the same as they do in a word processor.
After moving the post from the word processor to the dashboard, giving the post a title, and adding any links I want to include, rather than just clicking publish, I choose “Save and continue editing” so that the page reloads and a preview of the post is available at the bottom of the page. I proofread the post in the preview window and make sure that it looks the way I want it to before clicking the publish button.
What process do you go through when adding a post to your blog?
