Passwords and login information are very important in today’s technological society. Previously, I examined the dilemma that comes with having multiple passwords and login information and the Catch 22 that it creates.

There is another method that I occasionally use for certain sites that may help you out as well. The key to this method is in knowing your username and other people not knowing it. This method is especially useful for those sites with complex password rules that require complicated passwords that must be changed on a regular basis and cannot be reused in the future.

As long as you can remember your username, you only need to write the password down along with some sort of notation so that you can remember what site it was for without anyone who looks at the note knowing. You can then use a random password generator to create a password, write the password on a small slip of paper and keep it in your wallet or another somewhat safe location.

While this is not as secure as having it all in your head, it can provide a way for you to remember your login information without worrying too much about it falling in to the wrong hands, especially if the finder would not even know what site it is for. Also, having a complex password like those that can be generated will make it nearly impossible for someone who knows your username to hack in to your account.

Below is a list of some pretty decent random password generators that I have used:
Strong Password Generator
Good Password
The Bit Mill
GRC’s Ultra High Security Password Generator

These sites will allow you to create passwords following the different requirements you may encounter. You can also use any combination of the passwords that these things create and/or give your own twists to these passwords. One suggestion would be to generate a password a few characters longer than you need and then use only a portion of it for your actual password.
