If you’re looking for ways to keep the creativity flowing and the blog posts falling out of your fingertips, here is another idea that may be helpful. In an earlier post, I made a suggestion for when you don’t know what to blog about. I gave the suggestion to just get your mind off of your blog and an idea will come to you. Not long after that, there was an article called “Quick Tips for Conquering Writer’s Block” that had a similar view on this issue.

While these ideas can be very useful, I have another idea that somewhat contradicts my previous stance. While I still think it is a good idea to not think about the blog too much, going someplace with your blog in mind can be helpful.

What I’m talking about is taking your laptop (or a notebook and a pen) and getting away from your usual surroundings. This is somewhat in line with my suggestion of taking your dog for a walk, except with that idea I suggested not thinking about the blog or at least trying not to and just letting your mind wander.

For this new suggestion (in case that doesn’t work for you or you want to try something else) I would say you can and should think about your blog along the way. By getting away from your usual surroundings, I don’t mean just going from your computer desk to your couch or kitchen table.

Go someplace that you do not usually go to write such as the park, the library, or a rest area along the highway. When you get there, pay attention to your surroundings and be ready to write. Just the change of environment will often trigger your brain to think differently and bring new ideas to your keyboard.

With my previous suggestion, you come up with a few ideas and maybe some parts of the post and then go home and write it up. With this newer suggestion, finish the post before you get home. If you can’t get it published or your links added from where you are, at least have the text of the post done so you just need to add your links when you get home.
