Ok, so I’m in the middle of drafting a post about the evils of video posts when I see this interesting headline (that I decided to share with all of you) come across my RSS Reader:

Google’s `Mail Goggles’ designed to stop the e-mail equivalent of drunk dialing

The headline was for this AP news release that talks about an interesting new feature for all you Gmail users out there, and just might be the thing needed to gain a few more users…or maybe not. Anyway, the headline is pretty descriptive of what the new feature is…pretty descriptive if you are familiar with the terms “beer goggles” and “drunk dialing” at least. If you need clarification on these terms, let me know and I will explain it to you.

This feature, which was announced Monday requires you to solve math problems before sending your message. You can customize when the feature is active, but by default it is active during the late night weekend hours. I’ve never watched Grey’s Anatomy, so I’m not sure what the AP article was talking about there, but I can see how even in a sober state of mind (when solving those math questions would be easy) forcing a person to take a minute to think about the email they are about to send could be a positive thing.

While I do find it somewhat amusing and see how it could possibly maybe be a useful/helpful feature, I’m not entirely convinced. What do you think about this latest effort by society to save us from ourselves? If you are a Gmail user, do you think you will activate and use it? If you are going to use it, do you see yourself just trying it out or do you plan to take advantage of it long-term?
