I don’t go to movies very often, opting instead to just rent or purchase them when they become available on DVD. I will perhaps have to discuss this philosophy in a future post. However, Friday I went to a movie theater and watched a flick on the big screen. It was an enjoyable time, but the movie wasn’t quite as good as I had hoped.
Mind you, Wanted is not a movie that I thought was going to be so great that I couldn’t wait to see it. It just happened that we were going to the movies and there were not a whole lot of choices that excited any of us and we all agreed that Wanted looked to be a fairly decent film. After seeing it, I think it is an OK movie and not a waste of time to watch, but I’m not sure it is worth paying to see at the theater, but then again I don’t go to many movies remember.
They did a fairly good job of developing the main character’s background, but neglected to do so with some of the other characters which would have made the movie a bit more engaging. Also, after the first 20 minutes or so of the movie, they suddenly stopped developing and connecting with the main character’s thoughts/feelings/emotions as well. I definitely felt it was also lacking in character relationship development.
The action sequences were pretty good, but a little too far fetched to allow even a good imagination to believe. I was not a huge fan of the blatant disregard for the laws of physics. A few of the things (such as the ability to curve a bullet) were OK and to be expected, but I think they just simply went too far with some if it (i.e. the high speed car sequences) for it to be even half-way imaginable. Perhaps some of these unrealistic scenes could have been made more believable if they would have made it more of a fantasy world ala Matrix and Men in Black, but as it stands the movie comes off as trying to be “real world” while having effects that don’t fit with that theme.
All-in-all, I did enjoy going to the movie and might have to be a little less stingy and go more often. If I went more often, I may not feel that this movie was as large of a waste of a trip to the movies because when compared with the large continuum of movies that I have seen, it would fall somewhere in the middle of the pack. It is a movie that I would not hestitate to add to my DVD collection when it drops into the $5.00-$7.50 range at the stores, but I will probably not be buying it as a new release.
