Yes, balance is important. It is nice for a change of pace but not on a regular basis, IMO.

As you mentioned, I often find it difficult to maintain focus through longer video posts and can easily miss important pieces as my mind wanders.

I think Martin and I both agree (I know I do for sure) that video posts are nice and have a very valuable place in the blogosphere, it's just a matter of having a balance between video and text posts and not using a video post when a text post would be better suited for relaying the information you are presenting.

idk about you boys but I like video posts. mainly cause i feel like i get to learn about the author better. more on a personal level. Now i know text posts can display the same thing but i feel like videos make it more "real"

When I next come across a video post that would have been more appropriate as a text post, I think I'm going to leave a comment indicating exactly that ;-)

Thank you for your comments and the agreement with pretty much everything I was saying. After I wrote that post, I did have some second thoughts as to whether I should actually post it but decided to go ahead and do it anyway. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that feels this way.

I also hate (most) video posts, for the same reasons as you mention above.
Rather than having someone sit in front of a camera and talk about some subject, I prefer to have a text version in front of me, that I can skim read at my own pace, rather than having to watch a (often boring) video to wait for the interesting bits.
As you mention, it's not always convenient to watch a video post, if you're in a meeting, class, etc.

Video posts are also not as search-engine friendly, as search engines are limited to categorising the video post based on keywords, and the small amount of text around it, while the actual content of the video post is unable to be indexed (although that may still be coming in the future sometime...).

However, it's important to point out that there is still a place for video posts. Video posts can be more suitable if you're trying to show something that cannot easily be described with words and pictures/photos/screenshots.

Many bloggers are over-doing the video posting, and it certainly makes me consider removing any such blogger from my rss reader...
