One “company” that continually keeps getting mentioned throughout the blogosphere and on this blog is BlogRush. The biggest reason I see for them getting mentioned is because they are not living up to the promises and expectations that made them so popular. From what I have been seeing in my experiences throughout the blogosphere and from having the widget on my site, I have formulated a few more thoughts on this topic.
I mentioned in my post “BlogRush’s Latest Announcement Makes Me Wonder” that rather than making an announcement through BlogRush’s website, John Reese made an important announcement about changes in the BlogRush system but posted it directly on his personal blog. He then set up a link that would redirect from the BlogRush site to his own personal site. Perhaps the idea behind BlogRush all along was to get that site more attention and traffic.
Another thing that has been making me increasingly skeptical about BlogRush is that they keep teasing us with empty promises and leading us on. For over three weeks now, the BlogRush dashboard has said “Account Summary (Temporary Reporting) While we are rolling out a major update this week (BlogRush Beta v2.0) here are some summary stats for your account” and also contains an “under construction” type image. At this point I am beginning to wonder if this “major update” is ever going to happen and be released.
The third thought that I have formulated about BlogRush is that there is a fundamental flaw in the idea behind the program. The thinking of the program is that everyone is always looking for more information and new blogs to read. While this is moderately true and I have found some interesting articles through the widget, this is not an inherent characteristic of all blog visitors. Many times people (myself included) go to a site to see what that author had to say and have no interest in browsing on to other sites (which makes the widget completely pointless) and if they are interested in finding a new blog, they will likely check a new site that one of the sites they already read has on the blogroll or find someone through Technorati or MyBlogLog.
While I would still like to see what the new dashboard looks like for BlogRush, I’m not sure it’s ever going to happen and I am getting tired of waiting for it. I feel like they are leading me on so I may just add “remove BlogRush” to my list of changes that I am considering making within the next week or so.
