Here’s a video that’s been on YouTube since April that shows one way to install a radio. The individual in this video installed a Yaesu FT-7800R in a 2006 Ford Taurus and did a pretty good job of doing so. There are a lot of different ways to install a radio in a vehicle, and this is just one of them. Maybe it will give you some ideas for your next radio install.
One thing I definitely would have done differently is not used a mag mount. I know he mentions not wanting to drill holes, but my suggestion in that situation then would have been to get a lip mount that would have required only a couple small screw holes on the side of the lip that would not even be noticeable to someone who wasn’t looking for them after it was removed. This also would have prevented him from having to be concerned about the coax moving when the trunk is opened up.
