There are not very many people who will say that they are so happy with their productivity level that they would not have any interest in increasing it. In fact, there have been many articles written with tips on ways to increase productivity from a wide variety of sources. However, most of the articles you will find will have extremely similar ideas and suggestions.
While the tips that the majority of these articles will offer can be extremely helpful and useful and will increase your productivity, there are a few things that are not as commonly thought of that can be just as good. The main difference between the tips you would normally find and the focus of this article is that the more common tips focus on changing attitude and behaviors while my suggestion is more about the hardware and equipment that you use.
No matter how many time-saving tips you use and how rigidly you schedule your life, there are only so many hours in a day. One thing that is often not mentioned in articles about increasing productivity is the fact that the speed of your internet connection and the computer you are using can be significant factors in how much you can get done in a limited amount of time.
For example, if you increase the speed of your internet connection the websites that you visit will load faster and any items that you download will download faster. This will save you time and in turn, increase your productivity because you will be able to check more sites and get more things done in the same amount of time. Put another way, you will be more productive and will be able to get everything done in less time and have more free time for other endeavors.
Likewise, if your computer is getting on in age, it may be quite beneficial to consider an upgrade to a faster machine. By increasing the speed and ability of your computer, the programs that you use will load and run faster which will have a similar effect to having a faster internet connection.
Some of the great things about using these methods to increase your productivity are that you do not have to retrain yourself or change your behaviors and that the benefits will be immediately apparent. In order to implement these changes, you simply replace or upgrade your computer and/or contact your ISP to increase your bandwidth. Once this has been done, you continue doing things as you normally do and continue on with business as usual. The benefits will come naturally as things go quicker than they previously did and your productivity will increased.
So next time you are concerned that you are not getting as much done as you want or need to, take a moment to consider if the speed of your computer or internet connection are holding you back. If you have an old machine and a dial-up internet connection, you will likely benefit just as much (if not more) from upgrading to high-speed internet and a new computer as you would from implementing every time-saving tip that you can find.
