I've thought about that, but I would feel like I'm missing something and that I don't know what's going on in the blogosphere. Also, I don't think that would be very nice to the people whose sites I read and comment at on a regular basis :)

That might help you from getting "behind" so to speak and it might feel like less of a chore, but at the same time, I would feel like I am missing something or forgetting to read someone's posts....plus I find the reader to be much easier and "less of a chore" than visiting everyone's sites directly

I can certainly see how keyboard shortcuts would make a difference, but at the same time, you still have all that text to read and comprehend and (possibly) comment on....

I don't use the reader much anymore. I get links to read as I am reading other blogs. It keeps it less of a chore.

I have too many feeds in google reader, so if I'm away for a week or so, I have hundreds of posts to catch up on! I need to go through my feeds and unsubscribe from some of them to reduce the volume...

However, google reader has keyboard shortcuts (hit "?" in google reader to see them) that can be used to quickly navigate through posts.

I prioritise the feeds, and will quickly skim through the lower-priority feeds, and only read the posts that look particularly interesting.
For other feeds, I'll skim through the posts a little more slowly, taking the time to read most of the posts.

With the google reader keyboard shortcuts, I find I can navigate through a lot of posts in a relatively short time, and when I encounter a post that looks interesting, I'll open it in another tab in my browser (ctrl-click in Firefox), and then read it once I've finished skimming through all the pending posts for that feed.

(Because I like the keyboard shortcuts in google reader, I added keyboard shortcuts to my photo gallery, to make it easier to navigate through it.)
