Ok, so I know I said I was not only going to be catching up on my reading and commenting, but also get back to writing again and yet I haven’t added any content since Sunday. Well, I have added some additional post ideas to my list and have even started a couple of them. However, I haven’t yet had/taken the time to get them written.
At the very least, I felt that my readers deserved an update as to what is going on, but I’ll keep this short because I still have a lot of reading to do. Remember how I reported that I had 231 posts to read? That number is still quite high, but it’s not because I haven’t been reading, it’s because you all keep posting. Rest assured though, I am making some progress.
After reading these posts, I feel like I’m starting to know what’s going on in the blogosphere again and looking at the dates of the posts I’m reading I don’t feel so behind even though I have a lot of posts left to read.
Because of this situation that I have found myself in, I would like to pose this questions to all of you: What is your method of “attack” when you get way behind in your feed reader like this? Has this happened to you before? What did you do?
Don’t forget to tell your readers I’m back and get a chance at some free advertising. For details on that, check out my previous post.

I have too many feeds in google reader, so if I’m away for a week or so, I have hundreds of posts to catch up on! I need to go through my feeds and unsubscribe from some of them to reduce the volume…
However, google reader has keyboard shortcuts (hit “?” in google reader to see them) that can be used to quickly navigate through posts.
I prioritise the feeds, and will quickly skim through the lower-priority feeds, and only read the posts that look particularly interesting.
For other feeds, I’ll skim through the posts a little more slowly, taking the time to read most of the posts.
With the google reader keyboard shortcuts, I find I can navigate through a lot of posts in a relatively short time, and when I encounter a post that looks interesting, I’ll open it in another tab in my browser (ctrl-click in Firefox), and then read it once I’ve finished skimming through all the pending posts for that feed.
(Because I like the keyboard shortcuts in google reader, I added keyboard shortcuts to my photo gallery, to make it easier to navigate through it.)
I can certainly see how keyboard shortcuts would make a difference, but at the same time, you still have all that text to read and comprehend and (possibly) comment on….
I don’t use the reader much anymore. I get links to read as I am reading other blogs. It keeps it less of a chore.
That might help you from getting “behind” so to speak and it might feel like less of a chore, but at the same time, I would feel like I am missing something or forgetting to read someone’s posts….plus I find the reader to be much easier and “less of a chore” than visiting everyone’s sites directly
Or you can just take it easy and delete it all
I’ve thought about that, but I would feel like I’m missing something and that I don’t know what’s going on in the blogosphere. Also, I don’t think that would be very nice to the people whose sites I read and comment at on a regular basis
