It has been awhile since I mentioned some free software that was originally designed to be used on Linux but also has a Windows version available. Since it is always nice to have free software to use for your computing needs, I am going to give you some information about Audacity. Audacity is a piece of free software that I use anytime I need to do some sound editing.
The features and functions that Audacity has are far too numerous to name here, and much like the image editing program I use, I have barely skimmed the surface of the abilities of the program. With Audacity, you can can export to a variety of file types including mp3 and wav and those are the ones you will probably use the most.
My main uses for this program are for creating custom ringtones for my cell phone and splicing together parts of different sound files to make a custom announcement (which I have done for a couple of ham radio projects) as well as eliminating the dead space and garbage from the beginnings and ends of a few mp3 files that I had.
If you have any use at all for a sound editing program (and even if you don’t) I would suggest that you give Audacity a try before shelling out large amounts of cash for a different program. There is a good chance that you will be able to do whatever it is you need to do without having to buy that expensive software.
