Things are going pretty good in 2009 for this site so far, first there was New Year’s and the obligitory goals that needed to be written and then the weekend came upon us which meant it was time for “This Week In Blogging” and “Sunday Snapshots” and now I’m finally getting to my monthly housekeeping post. As usual, I’ll break this down into two separate parts: Top Commentators and Advertisers.
However, before I get to that, I’d like to take a moment to recognize another milestone achieved by this site. It’s not really something to celebrate or get too excited about, but after cleaning out my Akismet Queue, I recieved the following message:
Akismet has caught 20,046 spam for you since you first installed it.
I find it interesting that it took over a year to reach 10,000 spam comments and only another 6 months to double that number. Anyway, enough about that, let’s get to the fun stuff.
Top Commentators
I’m excited to report that you guys have commented enough to fill 8 of the 10 spots that I allow in this post.
Dennis Edell - 8 comments
Martin - 7 comments
Damien - 6 comments
Andrea - 6 comments
Tammy - 3 comments
Enkay - 3 comments
Tiger - 3 comments
Michael Kwan - 2 comments
Thanks you guys for sharing your thoughts on my site here. For those of you who didn’t get the free link this month, you can see how easy it is to get so try for next month!
The keenest of you among us may have noticed that there is a name in the above list that has been there the last couple of months but never had a URL attached. Well, I helped Tammy set up her own website over at Land of Tammy and I would encourage all of you to go check it out!
Advertisers
Well, there is a little bit of a shake-up in the advertising department here at romandock dot com in that it seems I may be having some success with PerformancingAds. I don’t have any confirmation of this yet because I am seeing somewhat conflicting information in my “dashboard” but Chris from PerformancingAds is on the case for me!
Also, Andrea and I have worked out a deal so you will continue seeing that bright pink banner in the rotation for those top 4 spots. If you would like to get your site featured, check out my advertise page or, you can purchase through PerformancingAds (at least for now) if you would prefer that option.

Wow, I am terrible as I had thought that I shared a few comments here last month. Congrats to all of those on the list - and a special congrats to Tammy for the launch of the new blog!
Nick, I am happy to hear that PerformancingAds is picking up for you and that Chris has been helpful to you as well.
Nope, today is the first time you’ve commented here since back in October! As far as Tammy and her new site is concerned, I’m not sure who is more excited her or me
In regards to PerformancingAds, I think it might be picking up but I’m not sure yet. I emailed Chris and he said he’d check on it for me but I haven’t heard back yet.
Dang…I apologize for being such a slacker! Apparently I need to work on clicking through the links from Google Reader and leave more comments.
Hopefully Chris gets back to you soon, let me know if I can help in any way.
Interesting to see just how many spam comments you’ve been getting.
I’ve always received lots of spam comments too, but in most cases, my spam filter blocks them. I don’t actually track how many spam comments have been blocked on my blog, but suspect it would be in the same order of magnitude.
I’ll occasionally take a look at the comment logs for my blog, and it looks like some spammers are using bot networks to spam, as I’ll often see multiple hits from different IP addresses, all attempting to spam the same post with identical content at almost the same time!
Good to hear that things are looking a bit more positive with regards to Performancing Ads - and I’m interested to see how they perform for you in the future.
BTW, for some reason, the commenting form isn’t showing up at all in IE6 - it just shows as a blank box, so I had to revert to another browser to be able to leave this comment.
I have noticed an intermittent problem with the comment form showing up in IE6, unfortunately I haven’t figured out what might be causing it (although I have a hunch it might be related to an ad plugin of some sort) or hunt it down. As a work-around, I have found that if you click the “reply to this comment” link for the post above that the form then shows up (although sometimes not aligned properly) and you can then “cancel reply” and be back to normal.
I don’t generally track or dwell on my number of spam comments, but since Akismet displays the number so readily, I take notice of it from time to time.
This is another reason why i dont use IE at all cost. I use FF or Safari. Firefox for when I am on a pc and I use Safari when I am on my mac.
Andrea, I don’t use IE by choice….and use FF at home.
However, on my corporate laptop, I’m stuck with IE6…
I’m in a similar situation, when I’m at work, my only choice is IE 6. However, I think I’m going to be trying Derek’s trick of installing Firefox on a flash drive…
bummer about that. im glad work gives me a choice of which browser to use.
Oh, nice to see you doing goo w/performancing ads. Actually there aren’t so many guys having success w/it…
Well, it looks like I’m having success but I’m not exactly sure yet. Just waiting to see what happens I guess.
Woohoo! LOL Thanks man.
Did I ask you about commentluv before? Didn’t you have it?
I’m not sure if you asked about it before or not. I did download it and try implementing it one time awhile back and for whatever reason it wasn’t working properly so I removed it again.
Perhaps I should try again and try to do something to force it to work if it doesn’t want to
Noooo sir, don’t force nuthin. If it doesn’t work just contact Andy at commentluv.com. He’ll be all over it.
But yea, definitely re-download, as it’s gone up a version or two recently.
I’ll be sure to contact him if it’s not working right the next time that I have a chance to mess with it. It’s a really cool feature and I certainly would like to implement it here!
