I recently passed along some information about low cost laptops being offered by AMD and Intel, these laptops only available in what have been defined as “developing countries” and are not available in the United States.

Recent news reveals that Dell is somewhat “one upping” these offers by offering free laptops. Yes, free laptops from Dell. Once again, however, I will not be able to get one of these machines. This offer is only available in the UK and is targeted at people who have never owned a computer. The basis of the deal is similar to the deals that you often get on cell phones from your service provider.

It is a partnership deal where if the customer signs a two year contract with a broadband internet service provider they will get a free laptop. There is more information about this deal available on InfoWorld. Is it only a matter of time before deals like this are available in the United States?
