If you are like me, you are probably not so thrilled with the fact that, a few years back, both Coke and Pepsi decided that when they have promotions for their beverages instead of being able to win a free soda, you have a chance at getting a “buy one get one free” offer. The main reason I am not a fan of this setup is that I am only one person and I do not generally drink a lot of soda.

Generally, when I purchase a soda, I only purchase one. For the longest time, when I would come upon these “winner” caps I would either throw them away or use them when I was out with friends. What I would do when I was out with friends and we were stopping to grab some snacks from a gas station is say to one of my friends, “I’ll give you this cap if you buy me a pop.” My friends would be purchasing these beverages anyway and I was able to get my free one.

Other than than those occasions, I would never use them. I have realized the flaw in that method and would like to point it out to anyone who may be of the same mindset. I would suggest always using those caps whenever possible. Even if you only want one at that time, the other one is free so you are out nothing if you don’t drink it and end up throwing it away.

I am a person who, even though I do not drink a lot of soda, always likes to have some in my refrigerator. When I run out, I will buy another 12 pack the next time I am at the grocery store. If I buy a bottle of pop at a convenience store and I have a “buy one get one free” bottle cap, I will bring the other one home and put it in my refrigerator for another day.

Yes, it is not cool of these companies to have changed from “win one free 20 oz” to “buy one 20 oz get one free” but since I cannot change it, here at least is a way to still benefit from the promotions that these companies hold. When I think of all the dollars I have lost by not doing this, it makes me kinda sad.
