One thing that people often forget about when it comes to working on and playing with radios and related equipment is the importance of test equipment. The reason that it gets overlooked is because test equipment is not something that gets used every day or even on an extremely regular basis. In fact, you can get by just fine without having any test equipment at all.

However, if you have the slightest inclination to experiment, try things, or otherwise tinker, having certain pieces of test equipment can be very useful. Test equipment is something that is only used during “testing” and is essentially a tool that helps the user determine how well something is or isn’t working and what exactly the problem is.

What are some different pieces of test equipment? What do they do? If these are the questions that you are asking yourself right now, be sure to check back because I will be including several posts focusing solely on different pieces of test equipment and what they do, how they are useful, and how necessary they are.
