I just found out about this even though it has been going on since sometime in May. Dell must have decided to do this quietly to not make waves with Microsoft, either that or they didn’t think it would be very exciting to the general population. This is exciting for the Linux community because it means that Linux will be getting more exposure and people will see how truly easy it is to learn and use.

Dell has decided to go with Ubuntu for the installation on these machines. I have not personally used Ubuntu, but from what I have read it seems to be quite user friendly, and hey, it’s based on my personal favorite (Debian).

Dell’s Linux offerings are available through their website, but they seem to be tucked away back in a corner. I had to use their build in search function and type in “linux” to find them. To make life easier for you, here is Dell’s page for their Ubuntu offerings. Also, the prices do seem to reflect a little bit of a break due to not coming bundled with Windows. I just hope they are selling well so that Dell does not decide to discontinue them.
