I donāt really know why I find these types of stories so interesting. I mean, itās not like itās a rare occurrence or anything like that. If you look, you can find probably at least a dozen examples of people doing things in this realm each and every year. However, I still find it interesting, perhaps because it is something that I (and most of the rest of the world) will likely never do. If I were able to do something along these lines though, I think I would enjoy it and would like to give it a shot.
Some of you may recall about a year ago (almost exactly) when I wrote this post about two guys pedaling their way across the country and linked to their Jokes Across America website. Well, Iāve recently come across a couple more similar feats being attempted and figured they would be a pleasant break from the normal blog topics. Donāt worry though, Iāll tie it back in to blogging.
Iāll be talking about two different cross country attempts in this post, one by professionals on foot and the other by amateurs on bicycles. As for the bicycle attempt, the purpose is to raise money for cancer research and the American Cancer Society. This trip is still in the early planning stages and is scheduled to start May 18, 2009. The trip (as planned) will start in New York, NY and end in San Francisco, CA. To learn more about this adventure, you can visit the Cycling 4 A Cure homepage. You can also check out their page at The American Cancer Society and make a donation to support them if you feel so compelled.
Their homepage site is hosted on blogspot and only has one post at this point. For right now, Iām sure they think blogspot will be a good thing for them on their trip. However, depending how much attention they want to try and gain and what they want to do with the site, I think I would probably recommend them getting a domain name and WordPress.
Moving on to the professionals, Running America is two guys who are experienced with āhigh adventureā activities such as running and mountain climbing. They are making a movie and trying to break a world record time in running from San Francisco to New York. They have several corporate sponsorships for this feat and started earlier this month with an expected end date near the end of October. If you look around their site, you might find this interesting link which might give you about as much screen time as Leo gets. They are looking for people to sign up to run with them and take part in the making of the movie.
Due to the purpose of their run and a variety of other factors, they (not surprisingly) have their own domain name. While the site itself has quite a few different features and parts to it, one thing that many of you may be interested in is that they have a āblogsā section which links to a subdomain of the main site and is running on a WordPress backend.
Anyway, I donāt know if you will find these as interesting as I do, but at the very least, I hope it was something fresh and different from the rest of the posts that have been appearing in your feed reader the last few daysā¦you are subscribed to my RSS feed arenāt you?

I agree they should dump the blogspot. Domain name and Wordpress is the best combo. As for biking, it would take a lot of training for me to do something like that. I haven’t run in years.
I think it would take a lot of training for almost anyone!
true. blogspot’s rather limited (hell, i use it so i have an idea of its limitations).
but it’s good they at least have some form of online presence.
i remember one year, my friend had invited me to do a run. iirc, it was a 3 mile run. I figured I could wing it and just not train. BIG MISTAKE. I about died from muscle soreness and exhaustion. I couldnt move for like a week afterwards. Of course my friend laughed her ass off the entire time.
Thinking back, it is funny but at the time, it wasnt. LOL I am sure I wouldve beat you up if you joked about it back then.
Lol, especially if you ran on a regular basis previously. You probably thought, “heck, three miles isn’t that far, I can do that” and then by the end were wishing you had trained for it!
true, if i had to do it all over again, i would definitally trained!
That or swear that i would never do another one (like i did).
I’m actually starting to run on a daily basis, and I must say that I am starting to feel like I have much more energy in my day then I did before.
I urge anyone to give it a try, it’s actually quite fun.
Interesting post mate.
