I've played with DCS (Digital Coded Squelch)with my buddies on simplex and it seems to me (it's been awhile back) like there was a hum to the tranmissions and also that you had to key the mic longer before talking so that you'd give enough time for the other guy's radio to open up or else you'd chop off the first part of every first word at the start of your transmission. We didn't really like it so we didn't play with it much. Now, maybe on a repeater... no hum? I dunno. never found a repeater that used it. Maybe it's a way of going through a repeater that won't pass tones to open up your wife, girlfriend, buddy, whoever's radio so they'd only hear your transmission from the repeater and no one else. Good for busy repeaters. not really a worry here. :)
