While almost any new monitor that you purchase today will likely be an LCD monitor, there are still a large number of CRT monitors available and in use. Many of these monitors are readily available and cheap to pick up, but they may not always be the best option.
If you are a person who spends or plans to spend any significant amount of time at the computer, there are numerous benefits to using an LCD monitor rather than CRT. Some of the pros and cons of each monitor type are outlined at:

This could also be a good article to use if you are trying to convince your employer to spring for you to switch from a CRT monitor to an LCD monitor at your desk at work. To highlight two of the things that this site points out, with an LCD, productivity is increased (major plus for the company) and it is easier on the user’s eyes to use an LCD monitor.
Fortunately, LCD monitors have become much more affordable in recent times than they once were. This will help to make the switch a little bit easier on your (or the company’s) budget.
