CodeWeavers Software Free For One Day Only Thanks To Falling Gas Prices
Posted by Nick under ComputingI was just informed of the great opportunity for all of you Linux and Mac users around and wanted to share it with all of you. The press release is here:
http://www.codeweavers.com/about/general/press/20081027/
For those of you who do not know (I didnât) what this software is, there are Linux and Mac versions which allow you to run Windows programs from within your âotherâ desktop environment without a Windows license. If you miss out on this opportunity to get the software for free, it is fairly reasonably priced and may be something worth purchasing if you are a Linux or Mac user.
I have no experience with this software yet, but watch for a full review to come soon!

yay! cool! free stuff!
Yeah, and you should find it useful for your Mac
hmm, i downloaded it but i dont quite understand wtf i am doing!
Well, on Linux I downloaded and ran/installed it. After that, I plugged in my thumb drive that I carry my RSS reader on and was able to open my RSS reader just as if I was on a Windows machine by double-clicking the exe file…email me with what you’re looking at doing and I’ll see if I can help you.
Are you going to try to add this software to your computer?
I added it to my Linux laptop earlier today but haven’t had time to really play with it yet, so far it seems pretty cool though!
You a Linux user? cool! think maybe one day you could write up a post about Linux? I have NO knowledge about it, id like to know more.
Sure, I’ve written a few posts about Linux in the past, but I’d be more than willing to write some more. Send me an email asking some questions and I’ll answer them in the form of posts
I went ahead and installed crossover on one of my machines a few days ago.
Installing Word was really simple, it was just a matter of putting the CD in and clicking next.
It uses a pretty basic color scheme and excel was kind of buggy, but Word worked fine.
Even just using it for Word is worth it though, because it is nice to be able to easily catch those blatant grammatical mistakes. Also when you take into account all the other programs it works with, it is a nice tool to have on hand.
Thanks again for letting me know. My friend knew about it but forgot to tell me until the next day…
Wow, Thanks for the heads up! I just downloaded both the game and the pro version. Looks like their servers got crushed today
I use Linux and do a lot of writing. and the one thing I miss is the grammar checker in word. The one available for Open Office leaves something to be desired. Crossover is supposed to be work really well with office…
I don’t think they were expecting it to be quite as big of a deal as it was. I tried to get it last night shortly after midnight and the site was unresponsive. When they did get the “streamlined version” up, it wasn’t quite as useful as it was when I checked back this afternoon so I ended up waiting and downloading them today…
