Ham Radio

Some people have received their TM-D710’s, but I’m still waiting for mine. In the meantime, the operating manual is available for reading at Kenwood’s website.

I recently came across this very interesting video with Walter Cronkite talking about ham radio. He focuses on ham radio being a form of emergency communication and its usefulness during disasters.

There is a recent press release that announces that Walter Cronkite will be receiving an award from the Radio Club of America.

When installing a mobile radio in a vehicle, one of the decisions you will have to make is whether to power it directly or have the power run through a switched source such as the ignition.

Even though your radio can be mounted in a very out-of-the-way location in your vehicle, you may want to make sure you can access it easily.

It is generally a good idea to know not only what memory channel a repeater is on in your radio and where that repeater is located, but also what the frequency is that you are using.

Ham radio operators are always looking for new people to get involved in the hobby, why aren’t you involved? Please leave your answer to this question as a comment.

The TM-D710 will be available soon, but we still do not know an exact date or have access to PDF versions of the operating manual.

I monitored CB Channel 19 for about 3 hours today while travelling down major highways with quite a bit of 18-wheeler traffic and did not hear a single thing.
