I went past the local Wal-Mart earlier this evening and saw, yet again, a phenomenon that I do not understand. What is it with people and camping at Wal-Mart? It seems that during the summer months, every Wal-Mart you go past has campers parked in the far end of the parking lot.

The logical explanation would be that these people just stopped at Wal-Mart to pick up a few things that they were going to need on the camping trip that they were enroute to and parked at the far end of the parking lot so as to be out of the way of the other patrons of the store.

This theory is “blown out of the water” by the fact that these same campers will still be there the next day and in some cases multiple days later. The part that I don’t understand is: what is it about Wal-Mart that makes it such a top destination for people to go camping at? Wouldn’t people rather go camping in campgrounds and at places that offer hiking trails, lakes, peace and quiet, etc?

Let me know what you think about this by leaving a comment below and if you think you might want to go camping at Wal-Mart, be sure to check out the Wal-Mart store locator to select your next camping destination.
